SomaSong®: Singing Somatics
SomaSong® is a mind-body healing modality created by psychotherapist and embodied arts facilitator Abby Ilardi Lowry (LPC, MS, RYT). Imagine the mindfulness and embodiment of a yoga class combined with the joy of singing songs with your friends around a campfire, and you'll get an idea of the SomaSong experience.
Why SomaSong®?
SomaSong® blends science with soul, offering a unique pathway to healing and self-discovery through the voice. In SomaSong, we use singing as a tool to release stored tension, calm the nervous system, and help you deepen your connection with yourself and others. Combining meditative singing, somatic/embodiment practices, and trauma-informed tools drawn from psychology, neuroscience, and vocal pedagogy, SomaSong supports emotional processing, tension release, regulation, and authentic expression. Singing doesn’t just engage the voice—it activates the vagus nerve and helps bring the nervous system back into balance. The nervous system regulation effects of singing can have profound and widespread benefits for both mind and body. SomaSong® compounds these physiological benefits by adding elements of mindfulness, somatic awareness, and emotional processing, creating a truly holistic practice.

What Makes SomaSong® Unique?
As a licensed professional counselor with an extensive background in trauma, mental health, and somatic therapy, Abby brings scientific knowledge and clinical expertise into every facet of SomaSong. However, as an artist, a musician, and a longtime yoga teacher, Abby also believes deeply in the wisdom of intuition and creativity—those “soul” elements that scientific protocols don’t tend to fully capture. This mix of scientific rigor and soulful exploration is at the heart of SomaSong.
The SomaSong® class experience is also something special. Think of it as an alternative to a meditation class—except instead of sitting in silence, we use sound, movement, and the voice to bring awareness into the body and soothe the mind. These classes are designed to be grounding, transformative, and even joyful, guiding you to reconnect with your body and voice in a way that feels both safe and freeing.
This approach is for anyone—whether you’re a trained singer or someone who has never sung a note in public, you’re welcome in a SomaSong class. It isn’t about “sounding good”; it’s about using your voice as a tool for healing, self-discovery, and transformation.
