Somatic Yoga
Private and small-group yoga and somatic movement sessions
This is yoga as embodied care and self-discovery — not yoga as performance or competition. Sessions blend traditional yoga practices (asana, breathwork, meditation, self-inquiry work) with somatic techniques, nervous system practices, and the slow mindful work of really inhabiting the body. For people who want their yoga practice to actually meet what their body and life are carrying.
Who is this for?
Somatic yoga is for people who want their yoga practice to be about something deeper than fitness.
That includes:
— People navigating stress, burnout, or nervous system overwhelm who want a yoga practice that meets what they're moving through rather than pushing past it.
— Performers, artists, and creatives who want embodied practice that supports both creative work and personal regulation.
— People who want to learn to use yoga as a tool for self-inquiry, insight, and learning to understand and explore their most authentic self.
— Yoga practitioners who've outgrown standard classes and want something more attentive, more somatic, and more responsive than a typical group setting allows.
— People who want yoga as part of a larger embodied or somatic practice — whether they're already working with me on Creative Terrain or SomaSong, or coming for the yoga on its own.
My Approach
My approach to yoga has been developed over a decade of teaching, exploring, experimentation, and integration. It draws on traditional asana (particularly from the Desikachar/Krishnamacharya lineages), my training in the Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy six-phase protocol, somatic techniques I've integrated from my broader clinical and contemplative studies, breath and nervous system work, mindfulness, and the many other embodied traditions I've spent years practicing.
What unifies it is somatics — an emphasis on the body's actual lived experience rather than on poses, sequences, or aesthetics.
In session, that looks like: more time spent on internal awareness than on external alignment. Postures and movements being used as vehicles for meditation, rather than end-goals. Attention to the nervous system. Permission to modify, rest, or stay with a sensation longer than the sequence might suggest. Trauma-aware pacing throughout.
The work is responsive rather than scripted. Each session adapts to what you arrive with — what your body is asking for, what your nervous system is holding, what you're working through in your larger life. If you are needing something vigorous to discharge energy and work through something, we might get sweaty. If you're needing to spend the whole session lying down, we'll make that happen. Everything is tailored to meet you exactly where you are.
What this work is not
This is somatic-informed yoga practice. It is not psychotherapy, yoga therapy in the formal sense, or a substitute for medical treatment. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Kansas, but in this work, I am operating as a yoga and somatic practitioner — not in my clinical capacity. If you're working through significant mental health concerns, medical conditions, or injuries, please seek appropriate licensed care alongside (or instead of) this work.
Offerings
Private yoga sessions (1:1, virtual or in-person Lawrence). 60 or 75 minutes, adapted to your specific needs and arc of practice. Packages and ongoing engagements available. Starting at $100. Please contact me for booking and details.
Small-group sessions (in-person Lawrence, occasional virtual cohorts). Small cohorts for specialized work — for performers, creatives, people working with chronic stress, or other affinity groups. I am also available for general somatic yoga group sessions if you have a group of interested participants. Contact me to inquire about current and upcoming offerings.
Somatic workout sessions. (Virtual or in-person Lawrence). If slower practices aren't your thing, or if you'd like to learn to use your workout as a nervous system regulation practice, I'm developing a structured somatic workout practice — a body-based offering that blends vigorous movement with somatic awareness, breath, and mindfulness, in the lineage of practices like The Class and Kinergy. Inquire to be notified of future groups and offerings or to learn about private sessions.
Events/Retreats. I am available by request to lead experiences for special events and retreats of all kinds. Bridal showers/bachelorette parties, birthdays, festivals, retreats, and more.
